South of Market Cultural Center (SOMAR)

San Francisco, California

This 1920's warehouse building was a city-owned facility used mainly for theater storage for all three of the city’s cultural centers. To date, the project is incomplete but the cavernous building has been seismically upgraded and made accessible. In a future phase, it will be brought up to current code for use as a neighborhood cultural center including an art gallery and performance space. The work is overseen by the San Francisco Arts Commission.
