Western Addition Cultural Center
(now Center for African Art & Culture)

This 1930's Art Deco building was a city-owned facility and was seismically upgraded, made accessible, and brought up to current code for use as a neighborhood cultural center. The work was done in phases and was overseen by the San Francisco Arts Commission. Later, the building was sold to the neighborhood.

The ground floor includes a theater and an art gallery. The second floor includes a library, conference room, music studios, dance floors, and an assembly room. Many fine murals by local artists adorn the spaces and an original 1930's Art Deco mural in the conference room was preserved.
